S-F Analytical has one of Wisconsin's leading aquatic toxicology laboratories.
Since 1990, the bioassay laboratory has provided quality services to more than 600 clients.
The bioassay staff has more than 61 years total experience, and has conducted work in 30 different states.
S-F Analytical has teamed with several environmental engineering firms to resolve site-specific toxicity issues.
Comprehensive assessments of aquatic toxicity of wastewater and chemical discharges are available through S-F Analytical's Bioassay Laboratory.
Our staff's knowledge of standard test methods, along with the ability to conduct specialized tests,
allows us to design cost-effective and flexible programs to meet your specific requirements.
We offer the following bioassay services:
- Acute and chronic NPDES toxicity tests
- Freshwater and marine bioassays using invertebrates, fish, and algae
- Toxicity identification/reduction evaluations
- Chemical and product toxicity testing
- Sediment elutriate and pore water bioassays
- Water effect ratio studies
All testing is performed to the U.S. EPA or state-specific methodologies and follows strict quality assurance procedures.
Specialized testing may follow ASTM or other methods. Our staff's familiarity with the regulatory aspects of the toxics control program,
coupled with four other analytical departments, allows us to provide the multidisciplinary approach necessary to deal with toxicity issues.
S-F Analytical currently maintains in-house cultures of algae (Selenastrum capricornutum),
water fleas (Ceriodaphnia dubia, Daphnia magna, and Daphnia pulex), and fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas).

Our services include sample kits (bottles, coolers, and chain-of-custody) as well as sample pick up/courier services anywhere in Wisconsin.

In May, 1997, S-F Analytical purchased CH2M Hill's Milwaukee Bioassay Laboratory which had been operating since 1990.
The Bioassay Laboratory has provided services to hundreds of clients in 30 states.
Currently, the Bioassay Lab staff has over 61 years of experience and the scientists have performed thousands of toxicity tests.
This experience has included testing over 15 different freshwater and marine species.
In May 1999, S-F Analytical acquired the toxicology lab operated by Integrated Paper Services, Appleton, Wisconsin.
In February 2002, S-F Analytical acquired the toxicology lab operated by CT Labs, Baraboo, Wisconsin.
These acquisitions have made S-F Analytical one of Wisconsin's leading aquatic toxicology laboratories.
S-F Analytical participates in the annual EPA DMR-QA Studies. The Bioassay Laboratory is certified by the state of Wisconsin (No. 241249360).
The S-F Analytical Bioassay Laboratory is also registered and approved for NPDES testing in the states of
Alabama, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oregon, Texas, and Wyoming.
